Wood or vinyl
- Wood privacy: the lower-cost option with a warm look; plan on stain or sealer every few years.
- Vinyl privacy: a bigger upfront cost, but it will not rot or need paint in mountain winters of snow, ice and freeze-thaw.
Privacy on a slope
On a hillside, privacy panels are usually stepped so each section stays level. Gaps under the steps can be filled with a rot board or by grading, so pets cannot slip underneath.
